‘Fantastic Beasts and where to find them’Screenplay book Review

I am well and truly pleased with the delivery of J.K.Rowlings ‘Fantastic Beasts and where to find them’ screenplay book.  I have never read  a screenplay before and was quite excited to do so, not only because it’s a wonderful story but to help improve knowledge in such things.

Even though the book is only monologue and directions, I found it wonderfully detailed and visually excellent. The reading pace was obviously quicker and with fewer details but the directions really got me on the edge of my seat. I was with the characters, engaged the entire way through, replaying the story in motion through my mind. I have not yet seen the movie, but I feel I have now. Newt, a Hufflepuff magizooligist, is a fabulous character, very charismatic and I absolutely love this harry Potter take, based in Newyork- 1926. As his suitcase of magical beasts escapes throughout Newyork, his stay is extended and is in for some fun trouble.

The illustrations were wonderful, whimsical and simple line drawings which represented the beasts throughout the screenplay. As I held the book in my hand, the feeling of the raised title across my fingertips excited me. The hardcover itself is brilliantly enticing and magical.

I was not expecting the screenplay to feel so magical, but it was indeed a book that I could not put down. I read the entire screenplay within a day, which is a very good pace for me, as I’m usually quite a slow reader.

Anywho, not that the book needs recommending at all, but I certainly do encourage you to give it a read! Next stop… the cinema… VERY excited

  1. I love feeling a raised title on the front cover too! Everything about the book’s appearance was perfect, the covers, the illustrations and even the writing which I immediately associated with the Potter books.
Great review! I read the screenplay before watching the film, and I believe the film is better 🙂
